146.910 is back on the air!!!

8/6/2008

The 146.910 is back on the air with a new controller. It appears we took a lightning hit. It totally fried the controller, exciter, and PA. It is strange that this happened once we grouned everything. Prior to grounding we have never had a problem. I replaced the unreliable cat controller with a linker-IIa. The audio on the link side is just awesome. I didn't have to tailor the audio at all. This is an amazing little controller. The link port is wired up to a maxtrac (UHF) with a few frequencies programmed into it. I plan on replacing the the controller at Dutch Hill in Wellsboro with one of these nifty little things as well. That link radio will be a VHF maxtrac. This will allow us to link into different VHF machines around the area as well.

APRS off the air right now.

APRS is off the air right now as far as N3FE-1 goes. I do have a new site for it. I just need to get up there and take care of a few things. At times the N3FE-1 TNC will forget itself. When all is repaired it will go up on Tower Hill where the KB3EAR 146.625 repeater is as well as the 443.100 repeater. I have not had anything up at this site in a long long time. I am not sure how well it will work up there. The only thing we can do is try it and see what the end result would be. I would love to throw another repeater p there but the building conditions are not the best.

APRS As of 10/21/2008 Dave will be headed to Williamsprt to reprogram the N3NXC-2 TNC on Bald Eagle Mtn in Williamsport. It appears the TNC forgot who it was yet again. This seems to be a constant problem with the PAccomm TNCs.

444.600 PL 127.3 The 444.600 on Dutch Hill will taken taken down sometime in the near future for a PA replacement. The current PA is only putting out 4-5 watts. I have a 75 watt PA to put back in it with a second preamp as well. I believe the exciter will also need replaced. I believe this was actually 420 Mhz equipment other than the receiver that I moved up in freq.

145.270 The 145.270 repeater (portable machine) is up at Phil and Elaine's house on the Gas Company Road. Their callsigns are KA3VRW and KB3VRW. It seems to have some pretty good coverage as well! I was quite impressed with it!

Inventory I am fresh out of repeater controllers at the moment. I do have a few spare pieces of GE Mastr II equipment in case something fails, but not much. The equipment is getting much harder to find at reasonable prices.

More NewsI have decided to only work on my own equipment at this time. I am having fun with the 146.910 and the 444.600 repeaters. I have received emails from people asking me to either service their repeaters or make changes. I don't want to be held reliable or responsible for other peoples equipment. Something happened where someon dropped off something at my house and it disapeared from my back porch.

147.060 The 147.060 is still on the air running a 127.3 PL tone. The main receiver is working but not the best. The Whitnyville receiver is also on line and working great. There has been talk about putting it in an outside cabinet. If the PGCRG wants to do it, feel free. There is no need for me to be present. This is a machine that I have helped keep going, but it needs a lot of work.
